Anything goes in a night of musical test drives, experiments and reboots from some of the most innovative opera creators in the UK. 22nd April, 7:30pm, The Cockpit Theatre, London Presented by Second Movement rough for opera is an opportunity for young and emerging opera creators to road test and showcase new ideas and evolving work. rough for opera on 22nd April will feature new and original works in various stages of development, including the first staging of Of Simulation and Dissimulation by Adam Dixon, a 20-minute opera for soprano and countertenor exploring the idea of trust and its threshold with text adapted by the composer from Francis Bacon’s essay of the same name and a presentation of his latest opera in progress by young Italian composer Simone Spagnolo, three time winner of the Asia America Symphony orchestra Composition prize. Composers and Performers Caroline Wilkins and Oded Ben-Tal will present Zaum- Beyond Mind, an experimental Sound Theatre piece which explores notions of embodied musical performance and sonic material and the way in which they interact. Benjamin Lunn, a young composer from the Royal Welsh College of Music will be presenting his first showing of his short one act opera ‘The Walrus and the Carpenter’. rough for opera is a new model for opera performance. This isn’t the finished article and the audience are encouraged to respond to the performances and provide feedback with composer, author and academic Professor Paul Barker leading a conversation with the audience and composers at the end of the evening.
