Concert   -  Performance of songs from the Jubilee Composers' Competition of the English Poetry and Song Society

Congratulations to Jolyon Laycock, whose setting for soprano and piano of "The North Ship" by Philip Larkin was awarded 1st Prize in the recent Jubilee Composers' Competition of the English Poetry and Song Society. The song was selected from 21 anonymous submissions by a jury consisting of Sarah Leonard, Stephen Varcoe and Raymond Warren.

The first performance will be given by Sarah Leonard, soprano with pianist Nigel Foster in a concert at Colston Hall II, Bristol, at 8.00pm on Friday 12 October.

Sarah will be joined by Stephen Varcoe, baritone, to perform a selection of the best songs from the competition by Janet Oates, Brian Daubney and Robert Hugill, as well as music by former Masters of the Royal Music including Elgar, Bax, Bliss, and Williamson, and including Max, the current holder of the post.
