Leading soprano Charlotte Newstead performs song cycles by leading West-country and Gloucestershire composers in this remarkable concert promoted by the Severnside Composers Alliance at Stroud’s Christian Community. Charlotte’s busy concert schedule includes all the major oratorio works and she regularly appears as soloist with orchestras around the UK.

Leading Composer Geoffrey Poole joins Charlotte Newstead as accompanist in a performance of his entertaining settings of poems by the celebrated American modernist poet Wallace Stevens. Formerly Professor of Music at Bristol University, Poole now lives near Stroud and has been an active member of SCA since 2006. His Rhapsody for violin and orchestra was premiered by Madeleine Mitchell and the Stroud Symphony Orchestra in June 2015.

This will be the first time for several years that SCA has promoted concerts outside Bristol. Charlotte Newstead and Geoffrey Poole perform the same concert on consecutive nights in Bristol and Stroud. Their recital includes much-loved songs by Vaughan Williams as well three other Gloucestershire composers, all of them SCA members: Trevor Jones, Liz Lane and James D’Angelo. The programme also includes songs by Bristol-based Steven Kings, by Sulyen Caradon who is a leading figure in Bath's musical life and by Frank Harvey who is based in Swindon.
